Established in 2008, this company is the leading producer of highly engineered oil country tubular goods (OCTG) for consumption in the US and Canadian natural gas and crude oil drilling markets. Challenge

In a highly competitive market, manufacturing companies look to modern technologies like IoT and AI to maintain or build a competitive advantage.

As a result, our client requires their IT department to be heavily involved in the operations of their business. This means the IT Manager not only needed to build a network infrastructure that is able to support a 24×7 operation, but he also needed to maintain a strategic focus.

Client had on outdated MPLS Wide Area Network with limited redundancy which could cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars during network outage.

In order to ensure operations weren’t affected by a poorly performing network, they needed to find a highly performing, resilient network solution. Additionally, the IT team was short-staffed due to the difficulty of finding qualified candidates in a smaller market, and they were spending too much time on “keep the lights on” activities.

Solution

As a phase 1, we worked with the client to architect a next-generation network build on hybrid network and SD-WAN. The new solution offered full monitoring and management of the edge equipment, including a cloud-based firewall and active/active routing over a highly redundant dual link network. The new solution also saved our client over $50,000 annually by migrating off of a more costly MPLS network.

The next task was to get their team out of the daily management of its core infrastructure. Bluewave performed a baseline analysis of the existing environment and then matched their requirements with a Managed Service Provider capable of taking over the day-to-day management of the tactical operations.

Results

Lastly, Bluewave introduced a cutting edge, battery-less, Bluetooth, low energy asset tracking solution to help streamline multiple areas of their plant operations, including inventory tracking, inbound and outbound shipments, and employee safety.
